So Warhammer Online came out not even a week ago, and I’ve been playing it quite a bit lately.  And now there’s already a few leveling guides out there on the market.  But do you REALLY need to buy a Warhammer Online leveling guide for this game?

Seriously, I’ve only played this game for less than a week, and I’m already a level 20 Rune Priest that can DPS.  The rate that you gain experience in this game has been pretty fast so far, and I’m pretty sure I’ll hit the level cap of 40 in a week or two at the most.  So the question for these leveling guides becomes, is it even worth it to buy a leveling guide for a game that most people will achieve the maximum level of 40 rather easily?  If noone else will say it I say no, but then again I’m pretty frugal myself.

Anyways here’s the two Warhammer Online leveling guides that I’ve stumbled across so far:

Let’s take a look at what these guys have to offer so early after the release of the game.

Ashling’s Warhammer guide states that they had 3 players in the beta since Oct 2007 testing out everything hardcore.  By being in the beta that long they have amassed enough information to create these Order and Destruction Warhammer guides. This is believable, because I was in the beta back in Febuary, so I know what maps/scenarios they had access to then, as well as some of the previous month’s tests posts in their private forums.  I also know that the game even though it was in beta had majority of the same quests so the information is still pretty valid.  When I ran through the areas that I was familiar with in retail, most of the quests had not changed at all since Febuary.

Looks like in addition to Ashling’s Warhammer guide that you purchase you get a bonus of a Warhammer crafting guide as well.  Now there isn’t too many crafts available yet in Warhammer, but from personal experience, Talisman making is a pain in the butt.  So any help leveling that skill up is a plus for me.

Now onto The Warhammer Guide, which mentions that many of the guides are written from closed beta testers, and that the information is wrong.  I’m going to have to disagree with this statement for sure.  Many of the quests may have been bugged, or not giving the correct rewards etc, but the quests themselves are still the same.  Also this part of their page really piqued my interest.

Note: Currently, the guide is only completed up to Level 20 – Updates will be made every day as new content is added to the guide to stay ahead of your leveling speed. Also, stay tuned to the members area for great new bonus content just for members!

Only done till level 20?  Why do I have the strange feeling that the writers of this guide probably didn’t even make it into the closed beta.  I mean I’m level 20 on my Rune Priest already, and this guide goes up to level 20.  So this means if I had spent my $30 bucks on this guide it’d be wasted.  They should have named the guides Warhammer Online Leveling guide 1-20 instead.

Both Ashling’s Warhammer Leveling Guide, and The Warhammer Online Guide state that you get instant access to the guide after purchasing it.  As well as free updates to it as the game gets patched/fixed.  Which is a good thing.  One thing to point out is that both of these guides are offering a Order OR Destruction guide for $30, and if you want the Order AND Destruction leveling guides it will be closer to $45-50.  So make sure you select the right faction before placing your orders.

Okay so far of the two it looks like Ashling’s Leveling guide is going to be the clear winner here if I were to recommend a leveling guide.  But seriously play the game first, and see how fast you level.  If you get stuck go look up the quests in over at the Warhammer Database for free before you spend 30 bucks on either of these guides.  I myself outleveled the quests by simply participating the RvR scenarios, and find that leveling up in RvR is quite a bit faster than grinding quests.  If you still want to buy the guides then well feel free to buy them via my affiliate links below.

Looking back, I’ve posted about one post a month in the last few months. A lot of things have happened in real life, like traveling to Japan. School going out for the summer which means my son needing watching for a few months. My video card going out, so upgrading my computer became necessary. Completely wiping my hard drive to install Windows Vista 64 ultimate(losing my blog backups). And so on and so forth.

Yes, yes I know not very good excuses for not keeping up this blog much, however real life does have more importance over whatever happens on my net life.  The interesting thing though is that even though I haven’t posted much recently, I still get a few visitors that come to this site via search engines to look up the couple of guides I wrote regarding farming World of Warcraft Gold, or farming Age of Conan gold.  Or even the Mana Potion story.  These visitors still add up, and though my traffic has died down quite a bit from not using Social Networks, I think I’ve made just about the same amount of money from ads/referrals.

The made money from Cashcrate post was able to get me another check in the mail.  The I made money from Squidoo blog post netted me some new referrals.  The Clickbank product about Whypark domain parking results post got me a sale, and I somehow managed to retain some Adsense revenue.  Talk about residual income.  Small income yes, but still some income nonetheless.

Today we removed the ability to enter new purchase orders for all games and worlds currently supported by Sparter. Existing orders will continue to completion, and may be accessed by visiting the My Account area.

Going forward, we believe the best course for our business is to focus solely on providing marketplaces with the full support of game developers and publishers.

Short announcement, and no notice sent by e-mail to its users. I wonder what caused the change of practice for this company to undertake this change? Its now confirmed that the new Google Toolbar Beta officially hijacks your web browser when you go to a page that no longer exists, and has a 404 page showing. The once innocent seeming company is starting to resemble Microsoft, and their monopolistic do it our way or the highway methods. Matt Cutts confirmed the story after the TechCrunch article it looks like too.

According to Matt Cutts:

404 errors with default error pages

When a visitor tries to reach your content with an invalid URL and your server returns a short, default error message (less than 512 bytes), the Toolbar will suggest an alternate URL to the visitor. If this is a general problem in your website, you will see these URLs also listed in the crawl errors section of your Webmaster Tools account.

If you choose to set up a custom error page, make sure it returns result code 404. The content of the 404 page can help your visitors to understand that they tried to reach a missing page and provides suggestions regarding how to find the content they were looking for. When a site displays a custom error page the Toolbar will no longer provide suggestions for that site. You can check the behavior of the Toolbar by visiting an invalid URL on your site with the Google Toolbar installed.

So this means its that much more important to setup your own custom 404 pages to avoid any missed affiliate sales, pages, or products as a webmaster. For the person just browsing the web though, now we have to worry about this toolbar being labeled as spyware?

If I recall Andy Beard had a bad experience with Google Toolbar’s ‘Personalized Recommendations’, and a not safe for work image a few months back . He was in the process of removing the Google Toolbar anyways, but it was another reason for him to do so.

Oh well maybe its time to go download the Yahoo! Toolbar now, and give it a try.

My apologies, I thought I had posted this on Sunday, but it looks like I only hit save so the post was stuck in my drafts until someone brought it up to me. I usually don’t look at my blog, unless its at a comment or I’m altering the template so sometimes I forget that I haven’t published a draft that I had ready. This week’s Sign up Sunday winner is announced, and I’m taking in requests for the next Sunday’s winner. There’s one carry over from last week, so leave me a comment on this post.

So this week it looks like I had 2 participants in my Sign me Up Sunday. They were UVME game network, and another one from issa for LeadLeaps.com. Of the two choice I have for this week I’ll have to pick up UVME this time around for a few reasons. Much of the info was available on SD’s blog about UVME for one. The other reason is that UVME is a skill game network where you can earn money by wagering against other players in skill based games.

I knew about this program back in September, but I either lost the e-mail I had signed up under or it didn’t go through the first time around. I made sure I got the confirmation this time so I am officially part of the UVME network.

Now while the Sign me Up Sunday program I think is a good way for some of you to get some referrals under your name. Please do be more descriptive than this:

For one the comment got stuck in my spam trap so I most likely wouldn’t have gotten it if I wasn’t checking through the spam messages the other day. Another thing is that remember that you are trying to sell me on why I should become a referral under you. Other than the ‘Simple Way to Generate Leads’, there really isn’t a description of what this program does, how do I sign up under you, or even to contact you if you had won.

The way I see it is that this Sign up Sunday program I’m starting is an excellent profit opportunity for both you, and me. Please do take the time to try, and sell me a product like how you would try to sell to a potential buyer.

However there are some stats that I have gathered about it already as well as some thoughts about it after the jump.

Selling Ads via Project Wonderful

I have my 3 Project Wonderful ad spots on the right hand side bar. It conveniently lists the current price per day to advertise on it. I just added it the other day, and theres seems to have filled up with another 20 more in queue. I’ll let try it out for a week or two with different amounts of advertising slots to see which brings in the best rate for this site.

I mentioned that I first saw this widget up in the forums for Entrecard users. They have quite a big 3 x 2 grid of 125×125 ad slots as seen here:

Each slot costs advertisers roughly $8 a day to advertise in. Yes that’s $8 a day x 6 slots, earning Entrecard a nice $17, 520 a year from this virtual real estate of theirs. That’s a good deal for those guys over at Entrecard especially for providing a great free traffic exchange program that helps get bloggers exposed to other bloggers.

My 3 slots up there after a few days is earning me $0.03-0.06 a day. Doesn’t sound like much, but it’ll add up (3-6 cents being about $1-2/month each spot). I chose to not put a minimum bid limit on the widget for now to see roughly where my rates go up to. If you wish to bid on some ad space via Project Wonderful you can do so via this link. Now I don’t get the people who have minimal traffic, and still want to charge $1 minimum/day for their site. Most advertisers won’t pay $30 a month for a no follow ad that gets less than 10k visitors a month.  If you do know people like that, send them my way to put bids on my ad spot.

I’ve also started to notice quite a bit of regular Entrecard users starting to pick this up as well since many already have a nice 125 x 125 ad image ready to use.  Also since the program is free to join, people can start making money, and use the money they earned via advertising to create ads for their own site.  Good deal so far.  I put in $5 to go bid on some 1 cent ad spots so lets see how that pans out.

Anyways the ad network is currently free so if you want, why not try out Project Wonderful.

I took a screen of the error message here: I really don’t think $3.18 qualifies as one of the top earners, so maybe its just a blanket message that was broadcast by accident? Does anyone else have some Squidoo pages that can login to check if you have received the same error message? Man if only I actually received $600 from it, that would have made my day.

By the way if you do have a Squidoo page, link it over to me I’ll be happy to stumble the page for you to bring in some extra visitors. I just recently created my third page which is just a Squidoo Video fan page for Monty Oum.

If you are not familiar with Monty Oum, he’s the machinima artist who created Haloid, Icarus, and Dead Fantasy. The most amazing thing about his videos is that they are created by him alone without a team, or director. Here is one of his videos called Haloid which was released a while back. The two characters are Samus from Metroid, and Master Chief from Halo, hence the merged title ‘Haloid’

It’ll be a weekly venture, and who can pass up a free referral. I’ll be adding a resource or making money online tools section in the future with the various means of monetizing I use to make it easier to keep track of which ones I have joined or not.  Now under Jason’s recommendation I’ve signed up with over at Pepperjam Network.  I just got a call from them not too long ago to verify my account.  Once I get have some time I’ll write up a review on it as well.

I’m going to start this off for now with free to join online networks. Why? Because there are a bunch of them like Quassia, UVME etc that are free to join, but I have not signed up with yet. Advertiser networks can be promoted to me as well as I’m currently only signed up with Adsense, and Adsdaq currently. If I have already signed up to a program I will let you know. This will be a good way for some new bloggers or affiliates to test their sales pitches on someone. Once I start running out of the free ones I’ll see how I’m doing financially, and even open it up to products that I need to shell out some cash for.

Now the interesting twist of it all. There are many programs out there that I believe will have more than one reader wanting me to join at the same time. The preference will go to the person who does the best job of explaining the different points I listed above. If you write a post directed at me or plug me somewhere in it I will be more inclined to join up with that program.

There are some things however that I will not join which are:

• Get rich quick schemes
• Pyramid schemes
• Illegal or otherwise immoral products
• Adult oriented programs
• Gambling or Casino related programs (free to play is okay though)
• Monthly fees required
• Offline programs

If you have an online program that you want me to look into, but are unsure of it feel free to contact me first. Same applies to if you have any questions on whether or not I’m already a part of an existing program as well.

Not bad for part time blogging, and most of the time playing games. I couldn’t seem to win any money yet from Moola, but there seems to be people cashing out $10-20 daily. Most I’ve gotten to was about $5 or so before I started losing games. I think I’m just going to spin the daily wheel, and hope for some money that way instead. I’ll add Moola to the list of earnings when I receive payment, and not before though.

Selling gold from World of Warcraft via Sparter seems to be the way to go right now, but I do want to learn other ways of making money online. I wish Sparter had an affiliate referral program of sorts. I noticed I was getting some hits from an ip in China with a small time gold seller’s domain, which clicked on the Sparter exit links alot. I also now see them listing their rates now on Sparter so if I missed out on some major referral monies I’ll be very sad =P.

Cashcrate was a little surprise since I haven’t logged into it for over a month, and then out of the blue I get a notice saying a referral of mine has reached payout. Its nice to know that there’s passive ways of making money online too. Just let the search engines catch your Cashcrate reviews from these blogs to generate revenue. One thing I did notice though, the post that received a lot of attention was the Cashcrate check picture(it had the most referral exit clicks). It seems like more than anything people want to know if you’re actually going to receive a payment rather than the program itself. The previous post I made about Cashcrate didn’t get many referrals, but once the proof was up I got about 5 people who signed up within the week. I need to make a note of that when doing reviews of any site, to also include the payment proofs to convince more people to sign up under me.Clickbank was the result of an Adwords driven sale, and not one of the guide book links I had up on my old blog. I hope to replicate the sale by finding other products among their list. I spent about $3 dollars on Adwords to get the sale selling Valkor’s Gold Guide. However the search demand for it wasn’t as high as I’d hope. I need to learn more about keyword researching to make better Adword ads. The good thing though is that I’m in the black with that campaign.

So what can I do now to increase my monthly take. Lets see, I’ve joined up with Amazon, and planning on reapplying this blog to Azoogle now that its on its own host. I hear great things about Azoogle’s pay per lead programs so I’ll look into those as well. Also since I moved over to this domain, I’ve been able to add some 125×125 slots up on the top right. I plan to sell some of those slots as I get build more traffic and readers. Chris over at MattNutts(No not Matt’s Nuts) created a Blog ad market called Focial.com. Which is kind of like an Ebay style method of selling ads via bids. When I decide to sell another slot on there I’ll post about it here to let you all know. I even saw someone selling Entrecard credits on there. He’s even got a referral program starting up so get in before everyone else signs up. There’s currently a listing for a 125×125 ad space from a PR 4 blog for only $5/month bid last I checked.

In the mean while I’m starting to gett a little addicted to blogging so hopefully that means I’ll write some more posts. The busiest part of the season for my day job just finished up, so I should have a little more time after I get home from work to blog. Also I’ve been thinking about putting up a small arcade on this site, but that’s another day.
