Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has been launched yesterday September 18th, 2008, and I was able to pick my copy up from the local Gamestop. I’ve been in the Beta for quite sometime, but while I was playing it I was under a NDA, so I couldn’t release any information about its gameplay, graphics etc. However since its gone retail I can finally let loose.
To be quite honest I didn’t think that Warhammer Online was going to be one of those games I was looking forward to when I was looking for MMORPGs to play. Why? Because I felt the beta was fairly lackluster. To me it felt like a World of Warcraft clone with bad graphics. Since then though I’ve played Age of Conan till its short lived fall, and even upgraded my system. It seems like they have optimized the graphics of the game since the beta, and cleaned up some of the complaints I had about its UI.
I especially enjoyed the opening cinematics, which if you’re not picking up the game you should atleast watch here:
I still feel quite slow while moving around the map though, especially after playing Age of Conan, and its sprint feature. I’m sure that will change if I ever get a mount. Using the flee skill every 30 seconds helps a little bit when moving around. I greatly enjoy the fact that the world map is not instanced per area like Age of Conan. Instead it is a seamless world map like World of Warcraft. Also traveling to different cities does not take forever like it does in World of Warcraft. Once you are able to access the flight maps you have a short movie, and then your taken to the next city. That’s a plus over World of Warcraft’s 15 minute flight paths to traverse the continent.

Massively had a pretty nice write up on what World of Warcraft players should expect when playing Warhammer Online. Also it looks like Curse has created a very nice Warhammer Online Database that is similar to Wowhead (for World of Warcraft). This should make doing the quests even easier so that you can get to the PvP, or RvR as they call it in Warhammer, aspect of the game sooner. That’s pretty much all the tools you’ll need to get started in Warhammer, unless you want to customize your UI with some mods. There’s a few that you can grab over at Curse gaming here.
Serverwise, being in Hawaii I should have played on one of the Oceanic servers. Instead my friends, and I decided to join up with some guildmates on Azazel under the Order banner. If you see me there I’ll be a Santa Clause lookalike dwarf Rune Priest with the name Minimoses.
Will you play Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning with me? If you do let me know who you are so I can kill/friend you =D.
