Spore Goes Retail – People Have Too Much Spare Time

So Spore was released about a week ago, and I completely missed the release date since I had been busy working at my new job.  Even sadder is the fact that I was just at a GameStop yesterday, and didn’t even realize that the game had gone retail already.  As soon as I’m done with this post, I’ll be driving down to there again to pick up my copy.

Maybe this game will at least keep me occupied enough until Diablo 3 or Wrath of the Lich King comes out.  I atleast hope so, but I for one don’t plan on spending hours creating super detailed character models for spore.  Check out this one that someone made of Bowser from the Mario Bros series.

There’s a heck of a lot more detailed spore character models out there as well.  Check out some of these over at Spore Illustrated. There some pretty nice characters that people created like Hello Kitty, ET, Krumm, Bender etc etc.

The only thing that makes me think twice about the getting the game is the bad rep its DRM is receiving.  Its soo bad that some people claim its whats causing it to be one of the top most pirated games of all time.  One of the reasons why the DRM is soo bad is that its only able to be installed up to three times.  Any more than that, and you have to contact EA for permission to install it again. The DRM was even the cause of its rating getting reduced on Amazon.

Of course the record breaking number of Spore downloads can’t be attributed solely to DRM, but it sure helped. That’s not all, it also contributed to making Spore one of the worst rated games on Amazon. Out of the 2,219 reviews, 2,018 awarded the game with just 1 star, all because of the strict DRM.

So if you’re having some bad luck with a bad hard drive, or upgrade your computer every year etc etc.  You’re going to be out of luck.  (Me?  I’ll probably play it hard core for a month, beat the game, and will most likely never play it again after that).

Anyways I think its about time I head on down to the shop to pick up my copy of the game now.  You probly should too, or you can order Spore from Amazon.

I heard a lot of hub-bub about this last week on Plurk, but I’m still pretty clueless about what it even is about! Whooooops.
