Howto: Get Banned From World of Warcraft Selling Gold

World of Warcraft Logo smNo I didn’t get banned from World of Warcraft for selling WoW gold. My gold is still stuck at around 14k since the beginning of the month due to me not being able to log in due to a corrupted patch. I need to do a full reinstall since the repair didn’t seem to work either. Now to get back on topic. A while ago Blizzard filed a federal lawsuit against a virtual goods selling company known by the name of Peons4Hire. Remember them? Yea they were the annoying as hell in game tells or random group invites to spam you their gold selling services.

Well the lawsuit between Peons 4 Hire (In Game Dollar), has finally settled. The end result was that the company can now no longer:

Making any use of the World of Warcraft® in-game communication or chat system to advertise any website, business, or commercial endeavor, including any business associated with In Game Dollar, LLC or www.peons4hire.com.

Sending messages to the World of Warcraft® servers, the World of Warcraft® in-game communication or chat system or any other computer used by Blizzard in connection with the World of Warcraft® game, if such messages mention or advertise the website www.peons4hire.com, In Game Dollar LLC or any other commercial endeavor.

Making any unauthorized use, or obtaining any unauthorized access to Blizzard’s computer systems or network.

Also noted in the article from Virtually Blind, is that the company can’t create new companies to do the same thing, or even sell the gold/power leveled character inventory they have.  That’s a bummer now, I guess they have to donate them to other gold farmers around the world.

The Peons4Hire site is also noted to be out of commission at the moment.  I wonder if the domain will drop so I can pick it up for myself =).  The WoW Gold selling market though is still rather healthy, and it seems like the reason why Peons4Hire received such a major ban from Blizzard was the fact that they spammed, via private tells, everyone in the game about their services.  So the surefire way to get banned from Blizzard, and receive a Federal lawsuit against you?  Spam the trade chat about selling gold.

While I guess its marketing nonetheless, its not very smart marketing.  I mean you join the server to message a bunch of people while the game logs down the ip addresses of where you logged in from.

On the plus side though, the price per 1000 gold now is up if you check the Wow gold market prices.  I wonder if it has any correlation to this lawsuit result or just a seasonal thing.   Usually prices get driven up after a massive banning of gold farming accounts.

@ Matt Hanson – Thanks for signing up Matt =)

@ Matt – How is Character Planet doing? I think I used to have an account on there that I signed up with via myspace a long time ago.

@ Zawadi – A video of me on the AH would be pretty boring =P I just buy out all the Adamantite ore on the AH, prospect them and resell the gems based on my cost + mark it up another 25%. I did see a nice mining path video not too long ago, I’ll see if I can post that one.
